2022 Past Performances Barbecue

February 10 - 19, 2022

The O’Mallery’s have gathered in their local park to share some barbecue and straight talk with their sister Barbara, whose spiral of drugs and recklessness has forced her siblings to stage an open-air intervention. But the event becomes raucous and unpredictable as familial stereotypes collide with hard realities, and racial politics slam up against the stories we tell—and maybe even believe—about who we were and who we've become.

The Laboratorium of Curious Creations

March 31 - April 2

Enter the colorful, dazzling world of the ever-so-slightly mad but always lovable inventor as his circus creations come to life and refuse to be tamed. The mischievous creatures seek only to entertain themselves, and you, with their high-flying acrobatics, contortions, and feats of strength. Beware that you don’t fall under their spell and run off to join their circus.

The Pajama Game in Concert

April 7 - 10

Conditions at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory are anything but peaceful as sparks fly between new superintendent, Sid Sorokin, and Babe Williams, leader of the union grievance committee. Their stormy relationship comes to a head when the workers strike for a 7 ½ cent pay increase, setting off not only a conflict between management and labor, but a battle of the sexes as well.

Begetters

May 12 - 21

Begetters by Lewis Morrow’s focuses on the twilight years of a long married African American couple, Spicer and Norma, whose caustic relationship has begun to rot the lives of their adult children and those they love. As Norma and Spicer wade through the collateral damage of their marriage, they realize the things and people they lose in the wake are irreplaceable.

Secrets & Lies

June 3 -11

When a group of white Hollywood producers decide it would be a “great idea” to create a scripted African American reality show based on Molière’s The Imaginary Cuckold, all types of secrets & lies are told including the lie that this would be a good idea. Secrets & Lies is a “play within a play” that chronicles the filming of a TV series called “Secrets & Lies” featuring two African American families grappling with love and deception in the age of social media and scripted reality television. We watch the talented African American actors hired to play the family members grapple with the farcical script written by a white writing team that tests their patience and undermines their talent. Filmed in a fictional vacation community in the Martha's Vineyard, the secrets and lies tangled in this show mirror the media filters, superficial posts, and Kardashian culture of the world we live in where it isn’t quite what it seems.

Bottle of Fire

June 22 - July 2

July 8 - 10

A Black family and a White family discover a hidden connection in the past and a surprising connection in the present. KCMPT is proud to return with their annual festival for the third year.

He wants to sell an old piano that has been in his family for generations, but he shares ownership with his sister, and it sits in her living room. She has already rejected several offers because the antique piano is covered with incredible carvings detailing the family’s rise from slavery. Boy Willie tries to persuade his stubborn sister that the past is past, but she is more formidable than he anticipated.
