| It's a musical about the epic battle between good and evil based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story about a brilliant doctor whose experiments with human personality create a murderous counterpart. Convinced the cure for his father's mental illness lies in the separation of Man's evil nature from his good, Dr. Henry Jekyll unwittingly unleashes his own dark side, wreaking havoc in the streets of late 19th century London as the savage, maniacal Edward Hyde. | For the first time in 7 years, the battle between good and evil will be waged on the Kansas City stage. Thin Air Theatrics and Shine Shows are collaborating to present “Jekyll and Hyde: The Musical” Oct. 12-31 at the Just Off Broadway Theater. The musical, directed by Daniel A. Doss, is based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic story about a brilliant doctor who experiments with human personality, resulting in the creation of a murderous counterpart. In this unique interpretation, the subject matter is being treated as drug addiction. It explores the idea that mind-altering drugs can take even the noblest of men and unleash the evil inside of them. The play contains adult themes and may not be suitable for younger audiences. This thrilling and adventurous show, with music and lyrics by Frank Wildhorn and Leslie Bricusse, marks the Kansas City debut for several professional actors new to the area, including artists from New York, Seattle, Canada, national tours, and academia. In addition, many local theater designers have come together to assist this production in choreography, fight choreography, dialect coaching, and costume design in order to create a truly enthralling experience. With the help of the latest technology used on the national tour of “Jekyll and Hyde,” the show will be performed with full orchestration, thanks to Realtime Music Solutions powered by Sinfonia, a musical instrument that can follow a conductor’s tempo and respond to constantly changing musical nuances during live performances. The show will also feature two songs that were cut from the original Broadway show and are not found in the current scripts. “Our goal is to surprise, captivate, and change the face of non-union professional theater in Kansas City,” said Daniel Doss. “This show is an example of what our local talent can accomplish here in the Midwest.” Patrick Lewallen will play the title role. Emma will be played by Candice Bondank, and Lucy will be played Mandy Mook. Also in the cast are Andrea Marie Boswell-Burns, Victor Castillo, Rachel Cox, Taylor Gass, Sam Gershman, Samantha Lord, John David Lutjen, Kelly McNichols, Diane Robertson, Tom Sawyer, Alex Saxon, Jaime Scherrer, John Sparger, Trista Lee Stone, Steve Therrien, Bradley J. Thomas, Christopher Trepinski, Nick Uthoff, Jennie Williams, and Ray Zarr. |
